Happy 90th Birthday Aldo Bufi Landi

Aldo Bufi Landi was born on April 7, 1923, the son of journalist Amedeo Bufi, who died in 1930. Aldo lived in Naples with his mother before World War II and returned afterwards in September 8, 1943.

At twenty he appeared with the Humorous Theatre Company in "De Filippo" where he played Cupid. He then became a comedian telling jokes and debuting at Teatro Kursaal. Following the separation between Eduardo and Peppino, he stayed with it from 1945 to 1950 where he worked in Naples Millionaire in “Le voci di dentro”.

He accepted a job offer from Peppino and remained from 1951 to 1953 with the other De Filippo. His reputation was now well established and his talent was much appreciated, alongside all the other major players of the Neapolitan stage. Aldo appeared in plays by Raffaele Viviani and Eduardo Scarpetta “La vedova scaltra” (1996) and other competing authors including Giovanni Verga, Luigi Pirandello, Garcia Lorca, Eugene O'Neill “Il lutto si addice ad Elettra” (1988), William Shakespeare “The Taming of the Shrew” (1989) and Carlo Goldoni “La vedova scaltra” (1991).

A good looking actor, he began an interesting film career making his debut in 1947 on the set of the film “Malaspina”, directed by Armando Fizzarotti. After appearing as the lead actor in several films, distributed mainly in the cinemas of the south of Italy, he agreed to work in larger national productions often accepting, with great professionalism, smaller parts. He worked with Toto in “47 morto che parla” directed by Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, in 1950, with Amedeo Nazzari in “Il brigante di Tacca del Lupo” by Pietro Germi, in 1952, with Vittorio Gassman in “Il mattatore” and with Alberto Sordi in “I magliari” (where he played the part of Rudolph Valentino), both in 1959. Bufi Landi also takes part in the 1971 film “Four Flies on Grey Velvet” by Dario Argento. During his film career Aldo appeared in three Euro westerns: “The Invincible Masked Rider” (1963), “Quintano” (1969) and “Zorro the Dominator” (1970)

Bufi Landi also appeared in several RAI TV dramas including ‘Luisa Sanfelice’ by Leonardo Cortese, (1966), ‘Storie della camorra’ (1978) for RAI 1, directed by Paul Gazzara, ‘I vecchi e i giovani’ (1972) for RAI 2, and ‘L'eredità della priora’ (1980) by Anton Giulio Majano.

Aldo is married to actress Clara Bindi [1927- ]. Today we celebrate Aldo Buffi Landi’s 90th birthday.
