Hans Scharnagl was born in Berlin, Germany on November 8, 1906. After his schooling he worked as a dock worker and billboard painter. In 1926 he joined the Communist Party in Berlin and Cologne and in 1946 he co-founded DEFA (Deutsche Film GmbH) and was its artistic director until 1950 when he became chairman of the board. In 1950 under the alias Hans Klering he became an actor with small roles in several of the films produced by DEFA including his only western "Fatal Error" (1969) as the character Mitch Chandler. Klering died on October 30, 1988 in East Berlin, East Germany. He is the father of actress Juliane Korén [1951- ]. Today we remember actor and DEFA founder Hans Klering on what would have been his 105th birthday.
