Happy 85th Birthday Alessandro Alessandroni
Alessandro Alessandroni was born on March 16, 1925 in Rome, Italy. An accomplished musician, he plays multiple instruments including guitar, mandolin, sitar, banjo, accordion and piano. A childhood friend of composer Ennio Morricone he was one of the key ingredients to the soundtracks of many of Morricone;s scores as well as his own compositions. His guitar playing and whistling were key to the success of the soundtracks for the Dollar series of Sergio Leone. He is also a singer and choir director for I Cantori Moderni which is also heard on numerous Euro-western scores. Alessandro is still active and gives occasional concerts all over Europe. What a great, still underappreciated talent. His playing, whistling, singing add so much to the atmosphere of those Leone films. I still remember the thrill when first hearing that whistling in FOD over 40 years ago. I had never heard anything like it! Some other favorite AA scores include HANDS UP, DEADMAN...YOU'RE UNDER ARREST! and THE DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE.
