María Teresa Dressel is/was a director and actress, she
was one of the few women to enroll in the directing program at the Institute
for Escuela Oficial de Cinematografía (EOC), established in 1947. She entered
the IIEC at the age of 43, having previously studied medicine, education, and
drama, and was fluent in Spanish, English and French. She worked as an actress
in films such as “Los días perdidos” (Víctor Erice, 1963), “La tía Tula”
(Miguel Picazo, 1964), “La noche del Doctor Valdés” (Cecilia Bartolomé, 1964),
and “Con el viento solano” (Mario Camus, 1965). Her directorial works consisted
of practical exercises produced at the EOC: “La reacción” (1960) and “Cuestión
de gustos” (1961).
Dressel appeared in twenty-one films and television appearances between 1956
and 1969. Maria also did some voice acting during her limited career.
María Teresa Dressel appeared in one Spaghetti western, “Bienvenido, padre
Murray” (Welcome Padre Murray) as Ken Purdy’s wife in 1962.
