European Western Comics - COLLANA JOLLY

Jolly Stories

This anthology series featured various reprints: Gordon Short (Edizioni Coccia, 1955), select episodes from Albi del Condor (Cecchini, 1955), all by Annibale Casabianca, Scotty Rider by N. Benedettucci (Erp, 1954), Jim West by Antonio and Vincenzo Chiomenti (Tomasina, 1956), Calam, la Pantera del West by Franco Donatelli (Zenith, 1951), and Rodicchio e Gigolò by Lombardi (Erp, 1954). It also included Bill West (using Lone Ranger artwork) and the previously unpublished I pistoleros di Fort Debbs by Walter Bender and Renzo Capredoni. Covers were either adapted from the original issues (N. Benedettucci) or newly created (A. Madella). The series later continued as a compilation format: issue #14 contained issues #6 and 7. Finally, it concluded its run as a pocket-sized publication. There were various supplements, mostly consisting of collected editions. An exception was the Strenna di Natale 1959 (1959 Christmas Special), which published Il pianeta d’oro by Mario Sbattella, partially in color, along with various stories featuring characters drawn by Lombardi. The publisher also released Tutte Parole Crociate (a weekly puzzle magazine that included a record). Two copies of issue #13 have been found (the error likely stemmed from a four-month hiatus between January and May 1960).

The anthology was published by ANA in Milan, Italy under editor A. De Lucia in 1959 with issue #1 being released in July and ending with #17 in October 1960. Each issue contained between 64 and 128 black and white pages with color covers.
