[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]
Mauder ‘Maudie’ Rose Dunham was born in Doddinghurst, Essex, England on October 29, 1897. She was a British actress known for her appearances in silent films during the late 1910s and 1920s. She was featured in several British productions, including “The Beetle” (1919), “Mr. Pim Passes By” (1921), “The Magistrate” (1921), and “Sinister Street” (1922), often taking supporting roles in dramas and comedies of the era. Dunham also appeared uncredited as a victim in Alfred Hitchcock's early thriller “The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog” (1927), marking one of her final screen credits before her last known role in “What Money Can Buy” (1928). Portraits of Dunham by Bassano Ltd from 1918 and 1919, held by the National Portrait Gallery, document her presence in the theatre and emerging film scene of post-World War I Britain, where she was associated with Essex. She was married to fellow actor Haddon Mason from 1924 until his death in 1966. Dunham died in Kensington, London on October 3, 1982, a few weeks shy of turning 85.
Maudie Dunham appeared in one silent Euro-western, “The Night Riders” as Diana Marbolt in 1920.
