Johan du Plooy was a production manager and film actor born in South Africa in 1926. He initially worked as a traffic officer in Johannesburg and had to stop Jamie Uys for an offence. Jamie thought he had potential and offered him a role in one of his films. Johan appeared in over 80 films and television series between 1955 and 1978.He was best known for his roles in the films “Dirkie”, “Liefde vir Lelik” and “Lelik is My Offer. He also worked as a production unit manager on the 1955 comedy film “Geld Soos Bossies” which he also acted in.
Johan died in Roodepoort, South Africa on February 17, 2011, at the age of 84.
Johan du Plooy appeared in one Euro-western, “They Call Me Lucky” as Juan della Cucho in 1973.
