Spaghetti Western Director - Mark Andrew

Marcello Andrei was born in Rome, Italy in 1922. He is is an Italian film director, assistant director, screenwriter and film editor.

Andrei started his career in the early 1950s as ab assistant director. He then made his directorial debut in 1956 with “Borung”, a documentary film set in Indonesia. He is one of the founders of the Festival dei Popoli which has been held in Florence since 1959.

More than likely Andrei has passed away but no I can find no reference to his death. If still living he'd be 103.

Using the alias Mark Andrew he directed “El Macho” (Macho Killers) in 1977 and a 1979 film that was never made called “Fight with Zapata”.

Spaghetti Western Screenwriter - Santos Alcocer

Santos Alcocer Bádenas was born in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain on November 28, 1907. He was a producer, production manager, director, journalist, writer.

His family settled in Madrid in 1908. He studied at the Pious Schools of San Antón and graduated in law from the University of Madrid. In 1927 he obtained a position as a civil servant at the Post Office and studied journalism at the school of El Debate, which would allow him to work in the editorial office of that newspaper and later in the Logos Agency and the newspaper Ya until 1939.

During the Spanish Civil War he supported the national side, and at the end of the war he wrote about his experiences in besieged Madrid. He published three books of autobiographical content about his experiences during the Civil War on the Nationalist side. Santos debuted as a screenwriter with the production company Emisora Films, in 1942. He was editor of the newspaper Arriba and of the agencies EFE and Cifra. From 1942 to 1946 he was Secretary of the Superior Board of Film Orientation, and from 1949 to 1951 he was director of the production company Paesa Films, with which he produced Pedro Lazaga's films “La patrulla” and “Cuerda de presos”. In In 1951 he founded the production company Ansara Films and in 1955 he founded his own production company, P.C. Santos Alcocer, and in 1956 he made his directorial debut with “La novia de Juan Lucero”, starring the singer Juanita Reina and the rellonejador Ángel Peralta. In total he directed six feature films and one short film until 1970, all of them of little popular acceptance and poor quality. From 1968 to 1970 he was linked to Spanish Television as a producer of the Teleclub program

Santos Alcocer died in Madrid on April 19, 1987. He was 79 years old.

Santos Alcocer co-wrote the screenplay for “I gemelli del Texas” (The Twins from Texas) in 1964 along with Giulio Scarnicci and Renzo Tarabusi in 1964.

Spaghetti Western Cinematographer José Luis Alcaine

José Luis Alcaine was born in Tangier, Morocco on December 26, 1938. He is a cinematographer, cameraman whose worked on over 165 films and television series with two more upcoming.

Educated in Tangier, he was the first cinematographer to use a fluorescent tube as key lighting in the 1970s. He has worked on films such as “Belle Époque” (Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, 1993), “Two Much” (1995), “Blast from the Past” (1999), and “The Skin I Live In” (2011).

He won the European Film Award for Best Cinematographer for “Volver”, and has received five Goya Awards for best cinematography.

In February 2019, he received the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes.

Alcaine was married to producer, director, writer, actress Cecilia Bartolomé (Cecilia Margarita Bartolomé Pina) [1943- ] in the 1960s and is the father of of producer, cinematographer, cameraman Pancho Alcaine [1968- ]. He is now married to make-up artist Mariló Osuna since 2006.

José Luis Alcaine was the cinematographer on three Euro-westerns: “Esos locos cuatreros” (Rustlers’ Rhapsody) in 1985, “Il mio West” (Gunslinger’s Revenge in 1998 and “Extraña forma de vida” (Strange Way of Life) in 2022.
