Sergio Leone, Henry Fonda, Harrison Ford - a number of famous actors and directors have already shot in the Spanish Tabernas desert. Well-known westerns and action films such as "Once Upon a Time in the West", "Trinity is Still MY Name", "Indiana Jones" and Bully Herbig's western comedy "Der Schuh des Manitu" were made there. Dirk Roche from Guderhandviertel was also fascinated by the well-known Italo or so-called spaghetti westerns of the 1970s from the western town of Fort Bravo in Europe's only desert near Almeria. The stagecoach station, saloon, horse stables and the unique nature ultimately inspired him to create his own westerns with his DED independent film production. Roche has been a screenwriter, producer, director, Actor - and with his films he repeatedly participates in international film festivals in London, Barcelona and Berlin. Among other things with his most recent work "Un Bastardo, una ciudad y los muertos".
Roche, who comes from a Berlin artist family, was practically born with a love for cinema films and the necessary know-how. Mother Monika still accompanies him today as a Spanish interpreter during the filming in Tabernas. He is also supported by his wife Martina, as a right-hand man and sometimes as an actress. Actors in his films included western hero Dan van Husen (including "The Bastard", 1968, "Alleluja & Sartana Are Sons... Sons of God", 1972). But Roche himself often shines as a villain in his own films. "I love it when I'm really dusty and the film blood splatters," says the filmmaker. Roche also shoots music videos against the backdrop of the western town, such as for the English singer Sarah Vista. His latest film project "Rosenkranz" is currently a special affair of the heart, says the 51-year-old. For a change no Spanish, but German production, and no Western either. This time the Altländer wrote the fictional story about a Jew who took revenge for the financial injustice of German banks against the Jews during the Nazi era. But even the idea of a humorous western comedy is currently taking shape at Roche, including expired parking meters with horses tied to them and a sheriff who punishes traffic offenses, he reveals some details - and explains: "A similar sense of humor to the Pink -Panther Movies. " But it is his greatest wish if one of his films is shown at the Berlinale - "even if they were also shown, I would not care".
