Peter Rabenalt was born in Rathenow, Brandenburg, Germany. He was a scientist and
film composer. Peter studied film production at the Konrad Wolf University
of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg and composition and
sound composition at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin. His
teachers included Wolfgang Hohensee and Jurge Wilbrandt. After a short time as
an actor in the feature film “Miss
Butterfly” (1966), he began writing film music that same
year. His compositions were not only used for feature films, but also for
teaching and (short) documentaries. His work on the film “Zille and ick” (one of the few
film musicals of DEFA) became special. Rabenalt also
worked as an editor on German television radio.
Rabenalt also worked as a research assistant at the Konrad
Wolf University of Film and Television, where he was a lecturer for sound and
music dramaturgy from the mid-1980s and later a professor for film and
television dramaturgy. Even after his retirement, he continued to work as
a visiting professor for dramaturgy at the HFF.
