Who Are Those Gals? ~ Maria Cinta



Maria Cinta Rosselló Labatut was born in Barcelona, Cataluña, Spain in 1952. As Maria Cinta he made herself known at the age of 12, when she released her first EP records in the mid -1960s , four of them between 1964 and 1966, with the help of Josep Maria Espinàs, Salvador Escamilla and the Mallorcan duo Queta & Teo. beginnings of the Nova Cançó. Songs like Maria Cinta or the Nina version of wax (Poupée de cire, poupée de son by Serge Gainsbourg). She had some success with her childish voice and the singer then recorded two single albums in Paris, trying her luck in the French language market.

After a few years without singing, Maria Cinta returned to the scene in the late 1979, and without the ingenuity of her beginnings. In her artistic return, Maria Cinta reaffirms herself as a singer in the world of songwriting, with a style close to Brazilian music, bossa nova and jazz . She sings the songs of some poets ( Miquel Martí i Pol, Miquel Desclot, Joan Vergés, Marià Manent, Salvador Espriu, Maria-Mercè Marçal ...), as well as subjects of her own songwriting and of  such songwriters as Josep Maria Andreu, Toti Soler, Josep Maria Bardagí and Enric Hernàez, among others. In 2004 she published her first album in Spanish: Carta a La Habana.

Currently, Maria Cinta is an assistant director and has composed the songs of a magic and cabaret show and continues in other musical projects as a singer.

Because of her popularity and name recognition she was used in two Euro-western to try and draw a larger audience. Her agent and music publishers also used the opportunity to capitalize on the Euro-western craze and put her name in front of more people in hopes of increasing her record sales.
