Lecil Travis Martin was born in Sterrett, Texas on
September 1, 1931 a country western singer, he adopted the name Boxcar in 1976,
after he purportedly saw a hobo resembling Willie Nelson at a train crossing.
He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1981, purchased a theater in Branson in 1987,
and extended his operations to include a Boxcar Willie Railroad and Airplane
Museum in 1990. He died in Branson, Missouri on April 12, 1999. Willie was a
first cousin to the actor Tommy Lee Jones.
