50th Anniversary of “Gatling Gun”

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the premier of “Quel caldo maledetto giorno di fuoco” (Gatling Gun) directed by Paolo Bianchini and starring Captain Chris Tanner (Woods) and John Ireland. Not a traditional western it plays more like a mystery film. Woods is let out of prison to track down an outlaw named Tarpas (Ireland) who has kidnapped Richard Gatlin and his famous gun. Tarpas wants a huge sum to deliver Gatlin to the U.S. Government and offers the gun to the Confederate forces for another huge sum. Disguised as a pardon prisoner who lives with his brothers near the town where the kidnapping occurred, Tanner recruits the help of the local doctor played by (Roberto Camardiel). Together they  defeat Belle Boyd and Mr. Bishop who are working for the Confedercy and then stop Tarpas before he can make it to Mexico. There’s plenty of suspense and action to satisfy westerns fans and drama fans alike. Robert Woods told me this is his most favorite western that he made.
