Little Known Spaghetti Western actors ~ Luis de Tejada

[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Luis María López de Tejada y Espinosa de los Monteros was born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina on November 7, 1919.

Luis "El Che" Tejada had the advantage of being multilingual - in addition to Spanish, he spoke perfect English, French, and Italian - which provided opportunities to make his way in the cinematographies of the main producers of films in Europe and America. After a difficult beginning, he managed to get into international film, developing a filmography of approximately 200 films between 1951 and 1979, shot in 47 countries, although the majority in Spain and Italy.

He became a beloved figure in Puerto Rican television history. He starred in the children's program ‘Payaso Pinito’ at Telemundo from 1954 to 1962, holding high ratings for eight years.

Following his support for a labor strike at WKAQ Radio and Telemundo in 1962, he left the show and pursued a successful international film career, acting in approximately 200 films across Europe and America.

He’s known for his roles in “Satanik” (1968), “Feuer frei auf Frankie” (1967), and “Amor a la Española” (1967). He returned to Puerto Rico in 1973 and focused on voiceover work for commercials.

Luis de Tejada passed away on June 1, 1989, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, at age 69.

Luis appeared in two Spaghetti westerns, “Una pistol per cento bare” (A Pistol for 100 Coffins) as O’Hara and “Tierra Brava” as a Trevor henchman both in 1968.
