Fred Charles Meyer was born in June 1946 in Dayton, Ohio. At 14 years old Freddie started playing drums and singing with “Ivan and the Sabers”, who opened for such acts as “The Beach Boys”, “The Byrds” and “The Rolling Stones”. Freddie graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville, Ohio and then attended the University of Cincinnati in 1968 but dropped out and moved to France.
Born without a leg above the knee, Freddie Meyer was the poster child of the company that manufactured artificial limbs in Dayton, Ohio. While at UC, he helped engineers invent an artificial leg with a hydraulic pump, so he could get out from behind the drums and dance like James Brown. That artificial leg became the model that everyone in the world would then use. In Europe, he became known as the "white" James Brown.
In 1968, he went to St. Tropez, France and formed “Freddy Meyer & The Soul Company” He quickly became the favorite singer of Brigitte Bardot, Eddie Barclay and the French JET SET, touring Europe and for 3 years singing where the JET SET played (he was the first rock singer to ever sing in Monte Carlo and the Paris Opera House). The Soul Company later emerged as Dynastie Crisis and after they split, Meyer recorded a bunch of singles under different names.
He has recorded about eight albums since then and can be found today singing in private parties and pubs all over Paris.
Freddie was married and died in France on November 12, 2020.
