Inga Maria Ålenius was born in Maria Magdalena parish, Stockholm Sweden on May 15, 1938. Her parents divorced at an early age, and she spent most of her childhood with her grandfather, who was a plumber, and her grandmother, who was a housewife. After eight years of elementary school, she worked in a plaster factory and at the Luma lamp factory before she applied and was accepted to Witzansky's theatre school, where she was in the same class as Britt Ekland, Evabritt Strandberg and Marie Göranzon. Her career continued with roles at Folkteatern in Gothenburg, Länsteatern in Västerås and Riksteatern.
The actress had her first role in Sven-Erik Magnusson's film " Under ditt parasol” (Under Your Parasol) from 1968 and there in the role of the fine "Miss Freckle". This was her only Euro-western.
She became known to the Swedish people through TV series such as ‘Raskens, Mor gifter sig’ (Raskens, Mother Gets Married) and ‘Hem till byn’ (Home to the Village). She appeared in Ingmar Bergman's “Fanny and Alexander” (1982) where she played Lisen, a maid in the Ekdahl house and Maria Blom's “Masjävlar” (2004). In all she appeared in some 32 films and TV series.
In 1990 she got to stand on stage with her idol Nils Poppe in “Två man om en änka” (Two Men About a Widow) at Fredriksdalsteatern in Helsingborg. She also participated in Poppe's “Spanska flugan” (Spanish Fly) in 1992 and “Bröderna Östermans huskkors” in 1993.
She was married to Anders Öman and had three daughters Cathrine Ålenius, Amelea Öman, Maria Sjulander and a son Elias Öman.
