Giovanni Di Benedetto was born in Rome, Italy on November 2, 1921. After getting his degree in political science he decided to try acting and began his career appearing as a priest in 1952’s “Il brigante di Tacca del Lupo”. He became an excellent supporting actor, with a beautiful and solid presence. He was also a publicist and translator since he spoke English, German and French.
During his acting career he was credited under several aliases including Gianni Benedetto, John Benedetto, John Benedit, John Benedy, John Hawkwood and John Heston.
Di Benedetto appeared in seven Spaghetti westerns during the late 1960s to the early 1970s. He usually played ranchers, doctors and saloon patrons and card players.
After he retired from acting in 2011, he lived on a ranch in Puglia where he pursued the mission to spread the thought and products of Herba Life in the deep South of Italy.
Giovanni Di Benedetto dies in Rome on July 20, 2014. He was 92.
