Olga Bisera Vukotic was born on May 26,1944 in Mostar,
Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to Wikipedia “After finishing elementary and
high school in Mostar she moved to Belgrade where she attended and graduated
from Academy of Theatre, Film, Radio, and Television.” BUT according to an
interview with Gianfranco Gramola for Intervisteromane she said growing
up without a father, she didn’t get along with her mother and ran away from
home at the age of 14. She said she had a cousin who was an actress at the theater
in Zagreb and became an actress by pure chance. Some of her friends told her she
looked like Grace Kelly and Rhonda Fleming and that gave her the idea of becoming
an actress and so she went to the audition academy in Belgrade. From there, by
pure chance, she began her acting career, even though she had no such
ambitions.
Bisera then moved to Hollywood and at 25 made her film debut in Sidney Pollack's “Castle Keep” and was put under contract by Columbia Pictures. She then moved to New York and attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. She was an actress for a few years in Hollywood, but she wasn't looking for a career at all costs but was looking for feelings and affection that she had never received from her family. After her participation in Sidney Pollack's film "Ardennes 44" (1969), where she had a small part with Burt Lancaster and Peter Falk. She fell in love with a producer 20 years her senior, but it failed, and she attempted suicide. That was the end of her career as a young woman in Hollywood. She moved to Italy, it was the 1970s and she realized that Italian cinema was completely different from that of Hollywood. The kind of cinema I wanted to make. It was all commercial, all the beautiful foreign actresses had to accept the roles of the bellones who had to suffer a little bit of everything.
With Roger Moore, she starred in the tenth James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me." She said she was supposed to be the leading lady of the film, because at that time she was dating the executive producer of United Artists, with whom she had a quarrel, and he took revenge. He went to the same agency as hers and asked for another actress and had her replaced with Barbara Bach.
In all Olga appeared in 19 films and TV series from 1965-1982 but at a certain point she left the industry because it didn't give her any satisfaction. To her, they were a by-product compared to the films they made in America, with Maryl Streep, Faye Dunaway and other actresses who had roles in really, beautiful movies. Italian films were rubbish by comparison. It was a disappointment and since she wrote very well at school, she came up with the idea of being a journalist. She invented a formula of her own, which opened up the doors of journalism to a certain level and it went very well for her. She worked as an associate of the magazine Emigrants in Rome. She was also an exclusive journalist of the Italian daily Il Tempo in which she published interviews with world famous people.
She was the partner of producer/writer Luciano Martino from 2004 till his death on August 14, 2013.
Olga appeared in only one Spaghetti western as a girl at the dance in 1972’s “Il magnifico west” (The Magnificent West).
