Excavation of Golden City

On May 3-6 and again on May 10-13 an archaeological excavation of the Golden City movie set will be conducted. the archaeological excavation works begin in the abandoned film set "Golden City" in Hoyo de Manzanares (Madrid).

This setting featured mostly "western" films, some as well known as "For a Fistful of Dollars" (Sergio Leone, 1964). It was Madrid's first stable set built in 1962 and active, at least, until 1973, although it was not demolished until much later.

More than 10 years of intense filming and more than 60 years of history we'll dig up in order to question and strain the temporary dimension in archeology.

You are all invited to come, watch and participate as you please.

Anyone interested can make contact via e-mail j.martinalonso@uva.nl for more information.

Best of luck.

  1. Looks like "Golden City" isn't so golden anymore. How sad.
