Director Walter Beck has spent 43 years at DEFA producing
numerous feature films primarily aimed at a young audience. He filmed
historical material such as ALS MARTIN FOURTEEN WAR (1964) or TRINI (Death for Zapata) (1976) as well as contemporary
material such as KÄUZCHENKUHLE (1968) or BIBERSPUR (1984). Gladly seen are his
fairy tale adaptations KÖNIG DROSSELBART (1965), DORNRÖSCHEN (1970) or
FROGKÖNIG (1987).

experiences from his 43 years at DEFA. Beck traces the genesis of his films,
looks back at unrealized projects, and talks about working with young actors
and performers as well as everyday life in the studio and his encounters with
directors, stage designers and authors.
