Ferenc Bencze was born in Nagyvárad, Romania on October 4, 1924. He started his acting career at the State Theatre in Oradea in 1945, where he was a company dancer and chorus member. Ferenc was an active athlete playing soccer, table tennis and basketball and from 1949 until 1950 a professional soccer player. In 1958 he became a member of the Hungarian Theatre in Cluj. His career in films began under the direction of Liviu Ciulei in the Liviu Rebreanu filmed novel “Forest of the Hanged” (1965). Bencze appeared as a guest performer in the 1970 featured film entitled “Breakout” directed by Péter Bacsó. Ferenc moved to Hungary in 1977 as a member of MAFILM a troupe of actors. Ferenc appeared that year in his only Euro-western “Armed and Very Dangerous”. In 1978 at the Cairo Film Festival, he won the Best Actor Award and in 1984 signed on for a stage role in “Veszprém” for The Petofi Theatre. After appearing in over 85 film and TV roles Ferenc Bencze made his last appearance in the TV series “Wish You Were Here” (1990). He died later that year on September 7, 1990 in Budapest, Hungary at the age of 65.
