Remembering José Elorrieta
José María Elorrieta de Lacy was born on February 1, 1921 in Madrid, Spain. He began his film career in 1945 writing and directing the film “La ciudad de los muñecos”. During his 30 year career he directed over 55 films and wrote screenplays for over 40 films while producing one documentary. He directed four Euro-westerns “Apache Fury” (1964), “Massacre at Fort Grant” (1965) “Seven for Pancho Villa” (1967), “If You Shoot... You Live!” (1975) and also writing the screenplays for all except “Seven for Pancho Villa”. He also co-wrote the screenplay for “The Secret of Captain O’Hara” (1964). He was the father of director, screenwriter, composer Jasvier Elorrieta [1950- ] and the grandfather of actress Bárbara Elorrieta [1978- ]. José died in Madrid on February 22, 1974. Today we remember one of the early Spanish directors of the genre José María Elorrieta on what would have been his 90th birthday.
