Little Known Spaghetti Western actors ~ Xavière De Leka

[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Xavière Colonna de Leca was born in Ajaccio, Corsica on April 7, 1881. As Xavière de Leka she was a Boulevard theatre actress and performer of the Moulin Rouge. She played mainly at the Théâtre des Variétés and the Théâtre des Capucines in Paris during the Belle Époque.

Xavière appeared in only three films that I can find record of and all were in 1912.

She died after a long illness and just after surgery in a private hospital on April 5, 1914, in Paris just two days before her 33rd birthday.

Her only Euro-western appearance was in “Amore di Apache” (An Adventurer’s Love) in 1906.

Original ‘Django’ Star Franco Nero to Be Honored by Filming Italy — Los Angeles Festival in Tandem With Hollywood Walk of Fame Tribute

Variety

By Nick Vivarelli

November 19, 2025

Iconic Italian actor Franco Nero, who gained worldwide fame in Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 classic Spaghetti Western “Django,” will be the top honoree of the upcoming 11th edition of Filming Italy — Los Angeles, the event bridging Italy and Hollywood set to run Feb. 10 to 14, 2026.

As previously announced, Nero — who after “Django” appeared in over 200 movies and TV shows, working with directors such as John Huston, Luis Buñuel, Claude Chabrol, Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Quentin Tarantino — will also be celebrated on Feb. 12 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Motion Pictures category.

“This is a particularly important milestone for Filming Italy, which has now secured its third star dedicated to an Italian artist, following the awarding of stars to Gina Lollobrigida in 2018, on the occasion of her 90th birthday, and Giancarlo Giannini in 2023,” said Italian marketing guru and festivals specialist Tiziana Rocca in a statement. Rocca noted her “great satisfaction” for being the promoter of this third Italian Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

Nero, who riffed on his role in the original “Django” in a cameo he had in Tarantino’s “Django Unchained,” has also acted in “Camelot,” “Die Hard 2,” “Letters to Juliet” and “John Wick: Chapter 2,” among other Hollywood films. His most recent appearances include a role as mob boss Don Lecco in Julian Schnabel’s “Hand of Dante.” Nero is married to actress Vanessa Redgrave, with whom he has a son, Carlo Gabriel Nero.

Nero will be honored with a retrospective by the Filming Italy fest that will feature a program including Italian cinema world premieres, restored classics, television series, short films and documentary films, many of which previously unseen.

Spaghetti Western Locations for “I Want Him Dead”.

We continue our hunt for filming locations for "I Want Him Dead". After Jack and his men leave Mallek’s ranch the scene shifts to a canyon where they have set up an ambush. A small detachment of Confederate soldiers escorting a wagon approaches. The men open fire on the Confederates and chase them through the canyon. Blood and his men kill all the soldiers and capture the wagon. They strip the soldiers of their uniforms and use them as disguises to infiltrate the location of the truce meeting.

This location is in Rambla Lanujar in Almeria, Spain,

"West and Soda" Turns 60 – A Retrospective of the Western According to Bozzetto

The Soundcheck

By Alfonso La Manna

November 19, 2025

Screened during the days of the Piccolo Grande Cinema of the Cineteca Milano, West and Soda seen in the restored theater gives a unique amazement. An irreverent parody of the western that still sets the standard today.

On Saturday 15 November, on the final evening of the Piccolo Grande Cinema festival of the Cineteca Milano, there was the screening of West and Soda in the Restored Edition, with the presence of Bruno Bozzetto.

So, what better opportunity to dive back into that anarchic and rebellious imagery staged by the master of Italian animation, than with the first feature film that made him known to the whole world?

Because, 60 years later, West and Soda is a film that still manages to amaze. A work that young people should absolutely rediscover and that represents a fundamental piece of Italian and world cinema, not only in the field of animation.

The premise

In the scenario of an unlikely old west populated by shady and bizarre characters, the fearsome Despicable is scraping together land and power thanks to his violent henchmen Ursus and Slender. But his conquered properties are missing one last possession: that of the young and sensual Clementine, who lives on her farm in the company of her beloved animals.

The cowardly criminal obviously has no qualms about targeting the young farmer and sends his henchmen to the ranch to force the woman to give him the property. But soon the young cowboy Johnny, who has come from afar, arrives from the horizon bringing Clementine the opportunity to solve the hostile situation.

Why is West and Soda so important?

West and Soda is not only one of the very first Italian animated feature films, but one of the first great examples of an animated film that went against the trend of the Disney classics, proposing a smaller film, but anarchic, crazy, very funny. Something that had never been seen before and that paved the way for the master's subsequent works, but which also inspired generations of subsequent directors. One of those first examples that demonstrated how animation could also challenge conventions and genres, proposing a new model free from the usual formulas.

And its release is also extraordinary, linked a few months later to that of Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars, consecrating that historical moment to that of the birth of the spaghetti western. Because West and Soda is nothing more than a parody of the western. A very intelligent parody, which knows how to take all the clichés of the genre and reinvent them in an unpredictable way. And that, after 60 years, has lost none of its irreverent charge.

A parody of the hilarious western

From the hilarious opening sequence to the saloon, up to the surreal final duel – which traditionally takes place under the blazing midday sun – West and Soda still today, with its thousand ideas, gimmicks, visual solutions, manages to give amazement and smiles even on the faces of new spectators. It is not only a courageous film, but also a work full of heart and passion, perceptible in every single scene. A film of the free spirit, which already showed part of the genius that Bozzetto would demonstrate in subsequent works.

Even reduced within the western genre, West and Soda brilliantly reveals itself as a skillful parody of a genre that is desecrated in all its formulas. There are no explanations about treasure findings, turbulent backstories that afflict the protagonist or classic showdowns to the death. It would be enough to mention the only visual device used to show Johnny's change of outfit to admire how much this is still a film that manages to amaze and always get off every track.

Unpredictable, brave and worthy of the charge that only a gunslinger could have.

Rediscovering Bruno Bozzetto with the exhibition at the Interactive Cinema Museum

This moment represents an unmissable opportunity to dive into the works of a giant of Italian and world animation. Because it is currently possible to discover – or rediscover – the entire production of our Bozzetto through the splendid exhibition La Pop Art Animata by Bruno Bozzetto, dedicated to him at the Interactive Museum of Cinema in Milan, now extended until next March 15, 2026.

The gallery presents a very rich exhibition of original rodovetri, preparatory materials, finds, sketches, storyboards of the master's production and mini cinema to see all his restored short films at the highest quality. An unmissable opportunity to admire the work of a filmmaker whose influence has been mentioned too little lately, but whose value and legacy are inestimable.

Spaghetti Western Trivia - Bearcats = Powderkeg

‘Bearcats!’ was an American Western television series broadcast on the CBS television network during the fall 1971 television season. It starred Rod Taylor and Dennis Cole as troubleshooters in the period before the American entry into World War I (1917).

Like several other western TV series often several issues would be edited together and released both in the U.S.A. and overseas as a feature film. So is the case of “Powderkeg” it released in Italy as a "Hallelujah" sequel! With Luciana Paluzzi appearing in the episode it gave the appearance of an actual full-length film.

It was shown in Italy as “Posa l’osso morales! arrive Alleluja” between "They Call Me Hallelujah" (04/08/71) and "The Return of Hallelujah" (08/30/72). In Spain it was titled “Barril de polvora”. While "Halleluja and Sartana Strike Again" came out last (12/22/72).

The film was later released on Video as “Dinamiteros”.

RIP Ingrid van Bergen

German film, TV actress and singer Ingrid van Bergen died in her sleep at her home in Eyendorf, Lower Saxony, Germany on November 28th. She was 94. Born Ingrid Maria van Bergen on June 15, 1931, in the Free City of Danzig she was a very popular actress in the 1950s to 1970s. Her role in "Roses for the Prosecutor" from 1959 was probably her most famous part. Van Bergen worked in cabaret with the Berlin "Stachelschweinen" and filmed for cinema and television. She was also in front of the camera for Edgar Wallace film adaptations such as "The Avenger" (1960) and "The Secret of the Yellow Daffodils" (1961). In "A Town Without Pity" she co-starred with Kirk Douglas (1960). Younger viewers knew van Bergen above all as a popular reality star and winner of the RTL show "Ich bin ein Star - Holt mich hier raus!", where she became "Jungle Queen" in 2009. In 1977 she was involved in a scandal. After shooting and killing her lover, the actress spent several years in prison for manslaughter. After her release in the early 1980s, she gradually managed to re-enter the entertainment industry. Ingrid appeared in three Euro-westerns: “Legend of a Gunfighter” in1964 as Linda, and the TV shows, “Prairie-Saloon in 1964 as (Lily) and in 1972-1973’s “Stadt ohne Sheriff” as Mrs. Wallace. Little Known Spaghetti Western actors ~ Maria Del Carmen de la Torre

[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Maria Del Carmen was born on September 19, 1943, in Barcelona, Spain. From a young age she dreamed of being an artist and becoming famous. Together with some friends (Juan, Alfonso, Rafa and Paco) he decided to form the group "Donald Duck", to play at parties and with which she later entered a radio contest, thus getting his first artistic prize. When in 1966 they recorded their first album, the group was renamed Los Stop with which they obtained resounding hits ("Tres cosas (Salud, dinero y amor)", "El turista 1.999.999", "Yo te daré", "La, la, la", etc.).

After leaving Los Stop, he began a solo career full of successes and in which he proved his worth as a singer under the name Cristina. After several attempts, the song "Viva la vida" arrived, which made her very popular again.

In the 1980s Cristina left the stage and recordings and set up a hairdressing business. It also puts an apparent, only apparent, end to his career only to return in 1999 on the oldies circuit within the Formula Diablos package, performing again throughout Spain and making a trip to Miami, Florida where she returned on several occasions, until in 2005 she lived there for a while and performed with other veterans such as Tony Landa, Karina or Los Mitos. During 2006 and 2007 she toured with Manolo Galván in the United States and other American countries.

After her last stay in Miami, she returned definitively to Spain and adopted the name of Cristina Stop with which she made the homonymous CD "Cristina Stop" (2007). Since then she has continued to make occasional performances and appearances on television programs, being one of the few relatively active survivors of the golden age of Spanish pop.

She appeared in only one film that is mentioned on the IMDb. That film was also her only western as she appeared as Paulette Doncella in 1965s “Rebeldes en Canada” (Rebels in Canada).
