Pedro Lazaga
I can't give a very good opinion about the 'westerns' that are rumbled in Spain because I've only really seen one and it wasn't bad.
However, I do not consider that this type of cinema is the most suitable for Spanish cinema. If producers want to make action films, we have our own story that can be turned to. I don't see the need to copy the Americans. I get the same impression as a bullfighting movie made by the Americans, who do it very badly.
I understand that Western films sell very easily abroad. It benefits cinema and that professionals can continue working while waiting for better material. Artistically the benefit is nil.
Q - Will you direct a 'western' one day?
No. I don't identify with the theme, it's not my cinema I feel. So far I haven't had to do any, although the way cinema works I can't say if I'll ever have to do it.
[Pedro Lagaza later made a western parody "Vente a ligar al Oeste"]

My experience as a 'western' actor is limited to "Pistols Don't Argue", a film that I am currently acting in and as an experience it satisfies me. When I was offered this film, I accepted with some distrust but now I do it with great enthusiasm because I have a lot of fun.
Q - But isn't it copying a typical genre of American cinema?
It would be difficult to live up to their 'westerns', but not impossible. On the other hand, in this type of films they usually employ either directors, actors, American professionals.
Q Is it a good path for Spanish cinema?
No, far from it. It's not the ideal way to go, but...
