Serge Emile Benneteau-Desgrois was born in Paris, France on November 25, 1931, commonly known as Serge Bento, he was then known as Serge Benneteau, who turned to film in his early 20s. He made his screen debut in Robert Bresson's drama “Tagebuch eines Landpfarrers” (Diary of a Country Pastor) in the small role of Mitonnet. This was followed for almost 10 years by only minor roles as a minor actor, rarely mentioned in the credits.
In 1960 he met Claude Chabrol, who recognized his potential and cast him in a total of fifteen of his films, gradually giving him bigger roles, such as that of the bookseller in “Zwei Freundinnen” (Two Friends) in 1968 alongside stars such as Jean-Louis Trintignant, Jacqueline Sassard and Stéphane Audran, and in the drama “Die untreue Frau” (The Unfaithful Wife) the role of Bignon a year later. In all Bento has appeared in over 85 films and television appearances from 1951-2006 plus many uncredited roles.
On television, he participated in 18 episodes of the series “Les cinq dernières minutes” (The Last Five Minutes) which ran from 1958-1996.
Serge appeared in only one Euro-western in an uncredited role as a young man in 1956’s “Fernand cow-boy” (Ferdinand Cowboy) starring Fernand Raynaud and directed by Guy Lefranc.
