La Block 2 Distribution, the
production and distribution company founded by the master Wong Kar-wai,
has secured international distribution rights for the all-Italian
documentary Ennio: The Maestro, made
by Giuseppe Tornatore and
focused on the legendary Ennio Morricone.
The project will mark the
thirteenth collaboration between Morricone, 91 years old, and the Sicilian
Oscar-winning director, a professional relationship that includes, among
others, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, a beloved film beloved the world.
The director Wong Kar-wai,
legendary for some of the most beautiful films ever made such as Days of Being Wild, In The Mood For Love and Ashes of Time, is among the numerous directors and
composers interviewed for the documentary, alongside Bernardo Bertolucci, Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood and Bruce
Springsteen. The
interviews are edited together with fragments of Morricone's private life,
recordings of his concerts around the world, clips from films embellished with
his soundtracks and a vast assortment of anecdotes from colleagues and friends,
famous and otherwise.
In his long career, which he concluded a few months
ago , Morricone has composed music for over 500 films and
television programs, with some of his best known works associated with the
production of spaghetti westerns, for which he is a signature like Sergio Leone , Clint
Eastwood and Sergio Corbucci . Over the years, he has also
worked for Terence
Malick, Brian de Palma and many others, with his albums
selling over 70 million copies worldwide.
In 2016 he received his first Oscar for Tarantino 's The Hateful Eight soundtrack, making him the
oldest person to win a competitive Academy Awards (he had already received an
honorary Oscar). The documentary is in post-production phase and will be
distributed by the end of 2020.
