Roy Charles Bjørnstad was born in Oslo, Norway on September 29, 1925. Roy made his stage debut in Sweden on March 8th 1945, while his own country Norway was being occupied by German troops. He joined the Norwegian military while in exile. His first film appearance was in: "Englandsfarere” in 1946, a film about Norwegians killed by the Nazis after trying to flee by boat.
From 1948 he was a stage actor in Trondheim, Stavanger and Oslo, where he played both in comedies and in the social dramas, always with great human insight and with a solid stage presence. A popular film actor he had many leading roles, and is his remembered for his performances in films like "Jentespranget" (1973) and "Bobbys krig" (1974). He also was heard on radio and television.
Roy died from cancer shortly after his eightieth birthday on November 25, 2005. He is survived by his wife and three children.
