Who Are Those Guys? - Halvar Björk



Erik Halvar Björk was born on September 22, 1928 in Borgvattnet, Jämtlands län, Sweden. As a young man he wanted to become a priest but changed his mind and worked partly as a lumberjack, a sailor and a butler. He was a member of a local theater company in Borgvattnet where he in 1951, he starred in a district presentation of “West Water Thief “, written by the priest Erik Lindgren. After this he came to concentrate totally on his acting career. Halvar studied at Calle Flygare Theater School in Stockholm before he had engagements at Wasa Teater in Finland 1954-1959. He subsequently enrolled in the ensemble at the TV Theatre in Swedish Television in 1960 and came to his prospective permanent home stage, Malmö City Theatre from 1962-1988. There he made some seventy roles, both dramatic and comic. After retiring, he played among others at the Stockholm City Theatre.
 
Björk also starred in numerous feature films such as Ingmar Bergman's “Autumn Sonata” with Ingrid Bergman and Liv Ullman, and “Sunday's Children”. His Euro-westerns Jan Troell's “The Emigrants” and “The New Land”, Beppe Wolgers “Dunderklumpen!”, Yngve Gamlins award-winning “Jakten” and “Badarna”, Vilgot Seaman’s “Tabu” and “Fallgropen”, he also worked in television with shows like “Hedebyborna”,Träpatronerna”, “Skånska mord” and “Kejsarn av Portugallien”.
 
He was rewarded in 1966 with the Evening Post's Thalia Prize and in 1968 with a Guldbaggegatan as Best Actor for his role in “Badarna”
 
Halvar died from lung cancer on November 12, 2000 in Huddinge, Stockholms län, Sweden.
