Alessandro Alessandroni was born on March 16, 1925 in Rome, Italy. An accomplished musician, he plays multiple instruments including guitar, mandolin, sitar, banjo, accordion and piano. A childhood friend of composer Ennio Morricone he was one of the key ingredients to the soundtracks of many of Morricone;s scores as well as his own compositions. His guitar playing and whistling were key to the success of the soundtracks for the Dollar series of Sergio Leone. He is also a singer and choir director for I Cantori Moderni which is also heard on numerous Euro-western scores. Alessandro is still active and gives occasional concerts all over Europe. Today we celebrate Alessandro's 85th birthday.
What a great, still underappreciated talent. His playing, whistling, singing add so much to the atmosphere of those Leone films. I still remember the thrill when first hearing that whistling in FOD over 40 years ago. I had never heard anything like it! Some other favorite AA scores include HANDS UP, DEADMAN...YOU'RE UNDER ARREST! and THE DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE.
