Born Giancarlo Simi was on November 7, 1924 in Tuscany, Italy and was an architect by trade. He worked extensively with Sergio Leone and Sergio Corbucci as a production, set and costume designer. His talents can be seen on sets consturcted for the opening scene in “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, the El Paso set for “For a Few Dollars More” and the Flagstone set used in “Once Upon a Time in the West”. Bits of his original drawings and costumes were shown at the Sergio Leone exhibit at the Autry National Museum in 2005. Simi aqppeared as the manager of the bank of El Paso in “For a Few Dollars More”. Carlo Simi died on November 26, 2000 in Rome. The Leone films would not have been the same without Simi's dstinctive sets and costuming. Today we celebrate what would have been his 85th birthday.
