British director, writer and theater, film and TV actor Frank Barrie died at
his home on June 30, 2025). Born Frank Smith in Scarborough, North Riding,
Yorkshire, England on September 19, 1940, he made his acting debut in 1959 in a
production of “Henry IV, Part 2” at the York Theatre Royal. He was a successful
Shakespearean actor throughout his career. In 2008 he starred in “Lunch with
Marlene”, a tribute to Noël Coward and Marlene Dietrich, and in 2010 was cast
as Edward Bishop, a gentleman friend of Dot Cotton in TV’s ‘Eastenders’. At
Hull he met his future wife, Maryann Lloyd. They married in 1960 and had a
daughter Julie. Barrie appeared in the Euro-western television series ‘Queen of
Swords’ in 2000 as Gonzalo.
