The actress will receive the 2025 Tabernas Film Award for her participation in western films

Actress Charo López will be awarded the Tabernas Film Award at the 15th edition of the Almeria Westwern Film Festival (AWFF). The festival will recognize his participation in several western productions during the beginning of his film career, especially during the early 70s.Charo López was part of the cast of 'El bandido Malpelo' (1971), filmed in the Tabernas Desert, and 'El sol bajo la tierra, Tabernas Film Award in 2024. In addition, the actress participated in works close to the genre, such as 'La guerrilla' (1972) or the Spanish series 'Curro Jiménez' (1977). These works are part of the rich heritage of Western European cinema produced in Spain and of the indelible mark of the actress as one of the few women who starred in the genre.
Her characters leave an indelible mark
With her leading characters in 'The Beehive' (1982), 'Lost Paradises' (1985) or 'The Most Natural' (1990) she won the Goya Academy Award. "Charo López is one of the legendary actresses of Spanish cinema, since the transition and over more than three decades, she developed an extensive filmography, dominating the Spanish billboards," said Juan Francisco Viruega, director of the Festival. "We must claim that her unmistakable look and voice, her extraordinary intelligence and beauty, and the strong character with which she endowed all her characters, were equally linked to the European western during the decade of the seventies," he added.
Actress Charo López revealed: "This award brings back many memories of a time when I still did not have a place in the profession. For me, going to Tabernas, in Almeria, was a real adventure". The artist recalls her beginnings: "I met directors such as Giuseppe Maria Scotese, Aldo Florio and actors Eduardo Fajardo. I felt that I was surrounded by professionals, especially the Italians who came to shoot here."
The award ceremony will take place during the opening gala, which will be held on October 8 at the municipal theater of Tabernas. "I remember that time with great affection. That's why receiving this award moves me deeply," added the actress.
An award that honors western legends
The Tabernas Film Award of the Almería Western Film Festival consolidates itself as a recognition of emblematic figures of cinema, both on the national and international scene. Legends of the 'spaghetti western' such as Franco Nero, Terence Hill or Fabio Testi, and great names of Spanish cinema such as Sara Montiel, Mónica Randall or the director of photography José Luis Alcaine, have received this award.
The Tabernas Film Award recognizes those who have helped consolidate the international prestige of the Tabernas Desert as a natural set of the Western. The actress, Charo López will be an exceptional honoree in this new edition of the festival.
