Two-time Oscar winning British costume designer Phyllis Dalton
died on January 9th at the age of 99. Born in London on October 11,
1925. Dalton’s two Oscar wins came nearly a quarter century apart, first for
her work on David Lean’s 1965 historical epic “Doctor Zhivago,” and then again
for Kenneth Branagh’s 1989 adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Henry V,” in which the
actor-director famously performs the Bard’s iconic St. Crispin’s Day speech.
Dalton was also costume designer on “Lawrence of Arabia” in 1962. Dalton was
the costume designer on one Euro-western 1979’s “Eagle’s Wing”.
