Little Known Western Actors ~ Jean-Roger Caussimon

[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Jean-Roger Caussimon was born on July 24, 1918, Paris, Île-de-France, France, the son of a doctor. He was a "provocative, anarchizing" French singer-songwriter and film actor. He appeared in 90 films between 1945 and 1985 but is better known for having worked with poet singer Léo Ferré. He first lived in Bordeaux (Gironde) where he completed his secondary education. Passionate about the theatre at a very early age, he trained as an actor (receiving a prize in comedy at the age of seventeen), then went to Paris where he was admitted to the conservatory. Mobilized during the Second World War, he was a prisoner in Germany until the end of 1944. Back in France, he was hired by the director Charles Dullin. As an actor, he was intensely active in cabarets and also played under the direction of important directors, such as Jean Mercure and Roger Planchon, and for a time joined the "Grenier-Hussenot" troupe. He also composed the French songs for the 1962 premiere of “Frank V” by F. Dürenmatt. He died in Paris on October 19, 1985 at the age of 67.

Caussimon appeared in three Euro-westerns, “Fernand cow-boy” (Fernand Cowboy) in 1956 (Prudent Beaver) and as Marshall Bazaine in 1965’s “Pyramid of the Sun God” and “Treasure of the Aztecs”.
