The great Sergio Salvati, one of the most important cinematographers of Italian cinema, has turned 90. Born on June 16, 1934, in Rome, he began his career in the late 1960s and, since then, has worked with some of the most iconic directors in the industry in about 120 films. His contribution to the art of cinematography direction was enormous. He can boast collaborations with directors of the caliber of Sergio Leone ("The Good, the Bad, the Ugly" and "My Name is Nobody"); Pier Paolo Pasolini ("Medea"); Marino Girolami, Enzo G. Castellari, Sergio Martino and many others. Historical collaborator, moreover, of the director Lucio Fulci, he directed for him the photography of films that have become real cults, such as "Zombi 2", "... And You Will Live in Terror!- The Afterlife" and "That Villa Next to the Cemetery".
Sergio Salvati has also worked on the photography of
numerous television commercials and, above all, the legendary
"Carosello", which he considers a "little cinema and a little
advertising". A biography of him will soon be published, written by a
Brindisi native, Francesco Romano, with another director of photography, Davide
Mancori, a long-time friend of Sergio Salvati, and with Ilaria Zappitelli. It
will certainly be a great tribute to a man who has given so much to the history
of cinema and beyond. In the meantime, many wishes for these 90 years always
lived to the fullest.
