RIP Andres Garcia

 


Famed Latin actor Andres Garcia known for his Mexican telenovela roles, died in Acapulco, Mexico on April 4, 2023. He was 81. García was a naturalized Mexican and was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on May 24, 1941. He became a household name after starring in the film adaptation of the comic series Chanoc. García would go on and have many acting credits in film titles like La noche del halcón, Las tres magnificas, Minifaldas con espuelas and El cinico. Garcia had been ill for some time and died of hepatic cirrhosis, which is severe scarring of the liver. He appeared in one Euro-western as Pancho in 1979’s “Garden of Venus” starring Chuck Connors, John Ireland and Jorge Rivero.

  1. I heard that he was also known simply as "Garcia" due to the fact that he was so well known, especially in Mexico.

  2. Possibly but Garcia in Spanish is like Smith in the U.S.A. so it would be difficult, I believe, to call him by his last name only and have people easily recognize who you are talking about.

  3. I agree. I mean, it WOULD be very difficult for EVERYBODY to know who you were talking about unless you told them what their job was. I think even Garcia himself must have been the same way.
