One of the most frustrating things I come across in researching the Spaghetti western and all Euro-westerns is the English and American dubbing of these films. There are Italian, Spanish, German, French and several other European dubbing websites but there are no British or American websites other than for cartoons. This becomes very irritable when you’ve seen hundreds of these films in English but have no idea who is dubbing the European cast members or recognize that the voice of the American or British actors voice have been replaced and dubbed by another actor.
It seems the only time you find out information is when the dubbing actor dies, and it’s mentioned in their obituary or you go to their IMDb page for more information and find out they’ve dubbed several or many European films released in the U.S.A. Unfortunately, many of these voice actors were secondary supporting and character actors who are not well known.
Thanks to Michael Ferguson for sending me a link to Edward Mannix’s IMDb page and some additional information on his dubbing career. I’ve put together what I could on Ed so that he will be recognized and remembered for his contribution to the genre.
Mannix
started out as a novelist with his most renowned book being An End to Fury in
1959
He was a free-lance journalist for Ring Magazine and a professional voice dubbing actor living in Italy who did extensive work in providing English language voices for export versions of numerous Italian B-movies. His most well-known work was as the English dubbing voice of Bud Spencer. He was also known and billed as Cyn Branch, Ed Mann, Ed Mannix.
Mannix was married to Joan Marie Burman and he had a daughter named Lauren Sue Powell.
Mannix died of a heart attack in Bristol, Maine on August 2, 1995.
