During the making of the Turkish, Italian co-production
of “Küçük Kovboy” (Cowboy Kid) in 1972 two tragedies struck. During the filming
of the stagecoach ride the coach turned over breaking actor Mehmet Yagmur’s leg
in two places. If that wasn’t bad enough Turkish stuntman Mahmut Gulay, who was
leading actor Cüneyt Arkin’s stunt double, received a broken neck during a fall and later died from the injury. He was
only 22. These two Turkish newspaper articles of the day reveal the tragedies.

ReplyDeleteIt's sad, may God have mercy on him, may he rest in peace, he died at a young age, but Mahmut Gülay's name should have been written in golden letters in the history of Yeşilçam, rather than seeing it on dusty shelves. He is a martyr of Yeşilçam that was left under the wind of Cüneyt Ark, whom I love very much, saying that he never used a stunt double.
