Who Are Those Singers & Musicians? ~ Preben Kaas

Preben Kaas was a Renaissance man who was a film producer, director, writer, composer, actor and singer who was born in Aalborg, Denmark on March 30, 1930. He appeared in more than 50 films between 1943 and 1980 and received the 1970 Bodil for best actor in a supporting role for his role in “The Olsen Gang in a Fix”.

Preben is often mentioned in the same breath as Dirch Passer and Jørgen Ryg when talking about the giants of Danish comedy in the 1960s and 1970s. As a theater man - actor, copywriter, director and theater director - he built up his semi-legendary status, and about 50 film roles helped out. In the 1960s, Kaas and Jørgen Ryg became the crazy-comic heirs to Kjeld Petersen/Dirch Passer; and as writer and director of the Circus Revue in particular, Kaas was, among many other things, the man behind many of Dirch Passer's best acts.

Kaas was married to Bodil Nymark Nielsen, Ulla Kaas Larsen, Anne Marie Lie and Lisbet Dahl. He is the father of actor and bandleader Jeppe Kaas and actor Nikolaj Lie Kaas.

Preben Kaas died on March 27, 1981, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
