theculturetrip - ‘Sergio Leone discovered this location in 1965, when he was preparing to shoot “A Fistful of Dollars” (sic, “For a Few Dollars More”). At the time, the area was called 'El Poblado del Fraile', in Almeria, after its owner, Alfredo Fraile [1912-1994]. Leone decided to shoot his Dollars trilogy here and had the Wild West town specially designed and built (by Carlo Simi). In 1965 (sic, 1966) he shot “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” with Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef.’
