Who Are Those Composers ~ Erik Nordgren



Herman Erik Nordgren was born in Sireköpinger, Malmöhus County, Sweden on February 13, 1913. He grew up in the Skåne countryside and in 1941 graduated form The College of Music in Stockholm. As a musician he played the viola. Bewteen 1945 and 1973 he wrote the music for more than 100 Swedish films including 18 for Ingmar Berrman. Between 1953 and 1967 he was the music director at the Swedish Film Indusry. From 1967-1977 he served as orchestra director for Sveriges Radio, Sweden’s nationally public supported radio. Besides composing film scores Erik has written many chamber symphonies, concertos and orchestral scores. He was given an award by the Swedish film community in 1957 for his score to Bergman’s film “Wild Strawberries”.

Herman Erick Nordgrend died in Västerhaninge, Haninge, Stockholms län, Sweden on March 6, 1992.
