Spaghetti Western Location ~ Aranjuez

Aranjuez, Spain is a historic city with large parks and gardens, on the banks of the Tagus River, 50 kilometers south of Madrid, built in the seventeenth century, at the time of the Bourbon kings, around the sumptuous palace built by King Philip II in 1561. This sort of Spanish Versailles, thanks to its monumental aspect, was chosen as a set for historical films and only in rare cases for western films. Some buildings with porticoes were used as sets to represent Mexican towns in such films as “Apache Fury” (1964); “Massacre at Fort Grant” (1964); “The Fury of Johnny Kid” (1967); “Gatling Gun” (1968); “Pancho Villa (1973).
