Before becoming a star in Euro-westerns Craig Hill had
made a few American films and television appearances but became known mainly
for his co-starring role on TV’s ‘Whirlybirds’ opposite veteran actor Kenneth
Toby. The 30 minute series was about Chuck (Toby) and P.T. (Hill) who own a
helicopter company and are hired to perform all types of jobs. The 111 episode
series ran from 1957-1960. The idea for the series came from the I Love Lucy
episode 13 ‘Bon Voyage’ that aired January 16 1956. Bob Gilbreath did all the
aerial stunts for both the I Love Lucy episode and all the Whirlybirds
episodes.
