Italian director, assistant director and writer Sergio
Spina died in Rome, Italy on January 19, 2017. He was 88. Sergio was born in
Rome on April 24, 1928 and directed of some of the first programs broadcast on
RAI-TV in 1954 entitled ‘Strapaese’. He was also responsible for designing and
directing ‘Mixer’ a TV special hosted by Giovanni Minoli. He co-wrote
screenplays for such films as ‘War Gods of Babylon’ (1962) starring Howard Duff
and directed by Silvio Amadio and his lone Euro-western ‘The Mercenary’ (1968)
directed by Sergio Corbucci with Franco Nero.
