After filming the winter scenes in the Italian Dolomites,
Sergio Corbucci returned to Italy and filmed the town scenes in Elios Studios,
Rome. The weather was not cooperating and it was warm and no snow. The snow was
created by spraying 26 tons of shaving cream over the ground and buildings to
create the desired effect. For the daylight scenes, the Elios set was swathed
in fog, to disguise the fact that the surrounding countryside had no snow.
