Happy 75th Birthday Antonio Mayans

José Antonio Mayans Hervás was born on May 4, 1939 in Valencia, Valencia, Spain. He studied acting in London. On his return to Spain, is linked to a group of American actors known as "work shop " related to Samuel Bronston Productions;  an independent producer who rose to prominence in blockbuster English language production in Spain such as “King of Kings” and “El Cid”, in which Mayans had small roles thanks to his knowledge of English. During the 1960s, he participated in supporting roles with many comedy directors such as Pedro Lazaga, followed by participation in many Spaghetti Westerns and other popular genres of the era. Mayans has appeared in over a dozen Euro-westerns from “Gunfighter of Casa Grande” in 1963 to a today where he’s been signed to appear in the 2015 production of “The Resurrection of El Puro” starring Robert Woods.
He became an almost inseparable actor in the filmography of Jesus Franco since the early 1970s, with whom he filmed erotic or horror films such as, “La noche de los asesinos”, “La casa de las mujeres perdidas”, “Sangre en mis zapatos”, “Juego sucio en Casablanca” and “La bahía Esmeralda”.
Pseudonyms he used in numerous films of Jesus Franco, included that of Anthony Foster, Robert Foster, Anthony May.
In the decades of 1990 and 2000 he appeared in many hit television series such asMédico de familia’, ‘Aquí no hay quien viva’, ‘Amar en tiempos revueltos’ and ‘Cuéntame cómo pasó’. In 2008 he starred in the controversial miniseries ‘Fago’, based on a real crime which had recently occurred, the victim was the mayor of the town of Fago (Province of Huesca).
In 2010 he took part in the filming of “Empusa”, Paul Naschy latest film, a production about a rugged vampire. Carlos Aured, the director originally planned for the film, left the shooting and died soon afterward; Paul Naschy replaced him and brought in Mayans whom he had worked with on several occasions, Naschy would die before seeing the premier of the film. Mayans “Empusa” costarred with Naschy, playing the role of Victor, in addition he worked as one of the designers of the production.
The premiere “Empusa” occurred at the Madrid festival Cinemad, Independent Film Festival and Worship. The festival also scheduled on the same date, a tribute to Antonio Mayans, one of the architects of the film.
Mayans also was a production manager work on many of the films of Jesus Franco, plus occasionally worked as a director, screenwriter, producer, editor and production designer. As an actor, his films exceed one hundred and fifty titles.
