Lee Broughton has had a Spaghetti Western related article published recently. The article employs theories connected to fan cultures (Henry Jenkins (1992), Camille Bacon-Smith (1992), Nicholas Abercrombie & Brian Longhurst (1998), Matt Hills (2002), et al) and new technologies (Norman K Denzin (1999), Tim Jordan (1999), Howard Rheingold (2000), Maria Bakardjieva (2003), et al) and uses them to map the participatory and culturally productive activities of an on-line community of Spaghetti Western fans.
The latter half of the article places particular emphasis on 'cult geographies' (Matt Hills, 2002) and tourism (John Urry, 2002), detailing the circumstances that led to some of the community actively searching out and visiting Spaghetti Western filming locations in Almeria, Spain. The article appears in a special conference edition of the journal Language and Intercultural Communication. Details below.
