Manfred Krug was born on February 8, 1937 in Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. He attended Drama School in Berlin in 1954. After graduation he worked in television and his roles grew. He then was hired by DEFA and his first film appearance was in "Fünf Patronenhülsen" (1960). His breakthrough role came in 1962’s "Auf der Sonnenseite". He then became a box office name and he toured Germany singing Jazz songs. Manfred appeared in swashbuckling and adventure films along with contemporary films. Another film "Mit mir nicht, Madam!" found him playing a comedy role. In some films only his voice was heard singing songs. The popular artist received many awards, including twice with the National Award of Merit Medal and the GDR. In 1977 he and his family moved to West Germany.
In West Germany Krug singing career started slowly. He found success as an actor, appearing in popular television series and movies, such as 1984’s “Crime Scene" as Commissioner Stoever and in 1987 he was a Berlin lawyer in the long-running series "Liebling Kreuzberg". At the end of 1989 in East Berlin, he can attend the second premiere of his film "Trail of Stones", which ran successfully in 1990 in German cinemas. After a heart surviving a heart attack he retires as an actor. He published several successful CDs on which he sings with his daughter, the actress Fanny Krug, and writes books. Manfred Krug, and also frequently appears in TV commercials, and writes about his experiences after expatriation in Wolf Biermann's book "The Runaways," which was filmed in 1997 by Frank Beyer. Krug appeared in only one Euro-western “Kit & Co.” (1974) as Wild Water Bill along with Dean Reed. Today we celebrate Manfred Krug’s 75th birthday.
