Voices of the Spaghetti Westerns – “Vengeance Ranch”

As we know most of the Euro-westerns were co-productions from Italy, Spain, Germany and France which incorporated British and American actors to gain a worldwide audience. The films were shot silent and then dubbed into the various languages where they were sold for distribution. That means Italian, Spanish, German, French and English voice actors were hired to dub the films. Even actors from the countries where the film was to be shown were often dubbed by voice actors for various reasons such as the actors were already busy making another film, they wanted to be paid additional salaries for dubbing their voices, the actor’s voice didn’t fit the character they were playing, accidents to the actors and in some cases even death before the film could be dubbed.

I’ll list a Euro-western and the (I) Italian, (S) Spanish, (G) German and (F) French, (E) English voices that I can find and once in a while a bio on a specific voice actor as in Europe these actors are as well-known as the actors they voiced.

Evelyn Gressmann  (1938 – 2018)

Evelyn Gressmann was born in Berlin Germany on December 1, 1938. After she completed her school studies, she learned the trade of graphic arts and completed a commercial apprenticeship. She also worked as a model. After acting lessons, she made her debut in Berlin in the musical “Lady aus Paris”.

After receiving the annual art prize of the Berlin Academy of Arts in the performing arts category in 1972 as an ensemble member of the Renaissance Theater, she made a name for herself in the following years, especially through roles at the city's boulevard theaters.

She became known nationwide through the television series ‘Drei Damen vom Grill’, in which she played the sauna owner Edeltraut Krüger.

Beginning in the 1960s, she worked as a dubbing actress. She lent her voice to Marie Versini in “Thunder at the Border”, Jean Simmons (“How to Make an American Quilt”), Bette Davis (“The Bride Came C.O.D.”), Sally Kirkland (“Get a Clue”) and Susan Saint James (“P.J.”). From 2009 to 2018, she was the voice of Linda Hunt ("NCISI: Los Angeles").

Evelyn died December 28, 2018; in Berlin she was 80.
