Little Known Spaghetti Western Actors ~ Ben Carruthers

[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Benito D. Carruthers was born in Illinois on August 14, 1936. He was a film actor, most notable for his role in John Cassavetes' debut feature film “Shadows” (1959) and the “Dirty Dozen” in 1967.

At 29, as lead singer of Ben Carruthers and the Deep, he recorded the track "Jack O' Diamonds" in 1965, a song he co-wrote using lyrics given to him by Bob Dylan.

His first son, Caine Carruthers, was a phenomenal bass player and was in various successful bands. Dijon Carruthers, his second son, was a drummer for a very short time in Megadeth.

Ben Carruthers died in Los Angeles, California of spinal cancer on September 27, 1983. He was only 47.

Carruthers appeared in only one Euro-western as John Longbow the Indian scout in 1971’s “Man in the Wilderness” starring Richard Harris and John Huston.
